Hands-on experience for our Kerry College work placement
We recently hosted a two-week student placement from Kerry College, as part of the QQI Level 5 Major Award in Ecology and Practical Fieldwork. The course provides a strong foundation for further study or ecology-related roles, especially in fieldwork.
It was a pleasure to welcome Katy Steele, a local wildlife rehabilitator with a clear passion for biodiversity. Alongside gaining hands-on experience with our team and helping with various office-based activities, she also found time to help us record and photograph some of the wildlife around our office.
At Wetland Surveys Ireland, we’re proud to support future ecologists by offering placements that give students a real insight into the profession. Here’s what Katy had to say about her time with us:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time with Patrick and the team. The experiences I’ve had in the few short weeks at Wetland Surveys Ireland have been extremely educational and truly enjoyable. I’m grateful that professionals as busy as this team could give me time to gain some vital experiences in the ecology field. These experiences confirmed that I’m in the right place, pursuing the right vocation, in the office and in the array of locations outdoors. I’d loved to have had a longer time for work experience with everyone at the company.”
Here’s Katy along with a few of the photos she captured of the biodiversity around our office.
