Native Tree Planting - National Biodiversity Week!
This National Biodiversity Week, we're excited to have taken a big step on one of the key initiatives in our Biodiversity Action Plan: the planting of native trees here at our office.
Last week, members of the WSI team rolled up their sleeves and got planting, putting the first of a new collection of native trees in the ground. It was a satisfying moment, taking something that had been committed to on paper and making it a reality. We'll be continuing the planting over the coming weeks until all the trees are in place.
A particular highlight was a visit from Conor Daly of The Forestry Company, who supplied the trees and generously gave his time to guide us through the process. Conor shared the planting techniques used on large-scale native woodland initiatives - the kind of knowledge that makes a real difference to long-term success. Importantly, he showed us how to protect our young, vulnerable trees from the deer that frequent the area around the office. It was a genuinely valuable session, and we're grateful for his expertise and insights.
Native trees are the backbone of healthy ecosystems. They provide habitat and food for a wide range of insects, birds, and other wildlife, support soil health, and contribute to local biodiversity in ways that non-native species don't match. Choosing to plant native is a small but meaningful decision, and one that fits naturally with the work we do every day at WSI.
Our Biodiversity Action Plan sets out a range of steps we're taking to ensure that our own patch reflects the values we bring to our work in the field. This planting is one piece of that and we'll continue to share updates as the plan progresses.
